I did the same thing and got the same reply that Paypal could not change the payment source BUT what is worse I caught it as soon as it happened. The Paypal rep assured me that Paypal would only take out of the bank the funds that were in the account. I should have asked him how they were going to do that but I thought he knew what he was doing. I even went so far as to contact the vendor, (this was not and Ebay purchase), and ask for the order to be canceled. They never replied and the order went through.

Paypal submitted the whole amount to the bank and the bank without my permission paid it. And why not, they get to slap a $28.00 NSF charge on you for "helping you out". That kind of help I don't need. I have since closed both accounts.

When I contacted Paypal they refused to look into the issue. Guess I need to treat every transaction as a pending lawsuit and document every thing.
(Make a mistake and get slammed with FEES)
