Why wouldnt you expect to pay for utilising a businesses services? Your car was totaled...how does that equal a free service? They shouldnt come perform a service for free. Its your responsibility to deal with your car and keep an interlock in a properly functioning vehicle. Lets say a tree falls on your house, do you get mad when the contractor says hes gotta charge you to repair the damage? Get real. Business have a right to charge for their time and services. They didnt total your car, they didnt wait around for a genie to magically know your thoughts and needs. You needed a service, call and schedule it. If it requires you tow your car in, um thats what you do when your car is broken. They dont need to pick up your responsibility. All they are to do is remove and install a breathalyzer at their service center. Go see if your body shop will do a road side collision repair, they wont. They need it at their shop to do the work. The mentality and expectations of so many interlock clients is bizarre. Sure, the company has idiot phone reps, as most call centers do. Go get a job there so someone can say the same about you, or so you can have an ah ha moment when you learn how far off base your expectations were. I agree with you that lifesafer sucks ass, it could do much better and used to be much better. But you are wrong straight up as to how your situation was to be handled.
