Defective products inevitably force customer service to be inadequate and defective as well, since tech support costs will otherwise be unbearable.

HP uses their tech support operations in India and the Philippines and elsewhere to mask the extent of the problems customers are stuck with. These call centers are merely contractors who cannot and do not speak for the company. They cannot admit actual product and software defects. Instead, they hide behind a bogus diagnostic ritual and the inevitable recommendation that the customer, if they are serious about a complaint, perform a system recovery and wipe everything out on their computer and PROVE to (SOMEONE (?) in) HP that HP has a defective component or mismatched software or a bad driver or mislabeled software and so forth.

Yes, HP has tons of problems and even more tons of business process to hide these problems from itself. Why be responsible when you can blame the customer for a bad experience?

Stay away from HP. They are bad!

YES! YES! YES!

You are not alone and you are not wrong. This is a standard result of the HP way of doing business. And their standard excuse is that if only the customer could solve their own problems, HP would not have any.

Stand up for yourself and demand that HP stand behind their products. You go, girl!
(HP One of my worst customer service experiences ever.)

HP is terrible. They hide behind a wall of business processes and claim to provide support, when actually all they offer is ritual and call holding. In order to pretend that neither their software nor their hardware is at fault, they bail out of problem solving situations (for computers) by declaring their time is up, no feasible solution exists and that the caller must do a system recovery on their machine. Then they hang up. HP: defective products and deceptive customer service/support. STAY AWAY!
