HSBC does nothing to help the consumer once they have you. My story:

In Jan. 2009, I had some trouble with the monthly payment - one month, mind you. I had nothing but phone calls approximately every hour for days. After repeated correspondence about this, and while trying to catch up, numerous charges were being added to my balance, such as that bogus identity theft feature that they roped me into. Then it was over limit charges, and every day I was deeper into debt.

I contacted them again, and got a reply saying they would try to work with me. I Explained, and in the meantime they closed my account, rescinded all of my GM card earnings, and told me there was nothing they could do.

Meanwhile, I ended up with absolutely nothing but a mountain of debt with a 31% interest rate, and ironically, within two weeks, I caught the account up and have been current ever since.

The damage has been done, and after I get through with them and pay this sucker off, I hope that HSBC and GM never see another penny of my money again.

More about usurious practices, outsourced attempts (feeble) at customer service, rescinded GM earnings, among other issues, upon request.
