I live in Germany. 12 Nov 08 @ 2151 I tried to make a purchase using my card and a $100 purchase was held/postponed/declined. I was forced to call American Express USA to verify the charge of "$100". American Express failed miserably in the customer service department on this one. I called American Express USA and spoke to a lovely Sue Ellen, Sue informed me that the system was down and would be down for 30 minutes. When she realized I was unyielding @ 2154 the system was on again. @ 2151 the website was down, the telephonic system was down and my card was not operable. FOR a "$100" charge. Kym Barnes was given the call and I continued to explain to her that I was using my personal mobile to call American Express USA b/c the number on the back of the card is a fraud. She got going to give me the correct collect international toll free number that should be imprinted on the card. Security concerns are a reality in today's environment but the next time I am interrupted for a $100 purchase I will take my business elsewhere. Probably straight to cash in this economic environment.
