frustrating - online reservations

i booked a flight for a family trip - 3 tickets and i made a mistake with the return date -- by 1 day. i called immediately and was shocked when i was told that i would have to pay a change fee. i tried to explain that i just did it and it was a genuine mistake and i called immediately. I waited for almost 30 minutes for a supervisor who told me the same thing. i said i would pay the difference in the flight fare if there was a difference to the new date as i expect that but apparently i would also be paying the change fee -- for 3 tickets. how frustrating is that.
