my father had a capital one credit card that he got just for his personal use my mother was not on the account nor did she use the card. my father through capital one signed up with stonebridge insurance to cover this credit card should anything ever happen to him up to ten thousand dollars, he had about eighteen hundred dollars charged on it but on september 10 of 08 my father passed away, I sent capital one a death certificate and a copy of his statement showing where he had been paying for insurance to cover this card if anything happened to him, well my 79 year old mother, who just lost her husband of 52 years and is in very bad health herself got this little note from stonebridge informing her that they would not be paying this card off because the coverage was for a secondary cardholder. now is it just me or is this the single most rediculous thing that weve ever heard. not only rediculous but a scam against the elderly and just not right it should be if its not against the law to practise business in this manner. not having a secondary cardholder certainly didnt stop stonebridge from charging my father nearly twenty dollars each month for this insurance, but its stopping them from doing the right thing and paying this card off. noone would sign up for insurance that covered an imaginary individual. there never was a secondary cardholder the card was in my fathers name and he was the only one on it!!!

After reading this review on elderly scam/Stonebridge Life Ins. Co., I am now totally convinced that this insurance company is a total scam and they should be investigated by the Attorney General or Insurance Commissioner of the state you live in. I am dealing with two credit cards covered by Stonebridge, one is Capital One, which is paying the min payment each month, premiums refunded plus interest on the bal. but Hsbc's card the account is frozen. The protection plan is not paying any of the balance, only refunded the premiums. Membership charged. I cannot get any response from Hsbc ins. dept to explain anything about the plan. Hsbc keeps requesting proof over & over again about my unemployment, I notarized and filled out several forms & send copies of unemployment received. The other cards protected by GE Money Bank after 3 months paid off all of my balances without any problem or hassell. I will close out Capital One and Hsbc when paid off. My advice is check to see what insurance co. covers your card before using it. The credit card companies using Stonebridge should consider GE Money Bank as their insurer for credit cards. I highly recommend this company. If everyone would consider other credit card companies who carry good coverage before applying and close their accounts with this insurer, then maybe that would be a wake up call. I plan to contact my insurance commissioner or attorney general and report this insurance co. and ask they be investigated for their actions in this state.
