Something I find highly disturbing and quite frankly annoying while watching jewelry being sold on the telly, is when they announce carat weights of get this...a beaded necklace...HUH? In addition, the presenters go nuts over the fact that you're getting “SO MUCH GEMSTONE, for SO LITTLE MONEY!” Guys, come on! What kind of an idiot weighs beads? I make beaded jewelry myself, I buy beads constantly from various stores around the country, the only time beads ever get weighed in carats is when they are SUPER nice quality, precious gemstones. (Think along the lines of Ruby, Sapphire, Tsavorite, Emerald, Diamonds.) Smoky quartz, Tigers Eye, Onyx, Turquoise, Howlite, and most quartzes, do NOT count.
These beads do get measured in millimeters, but they aren't fancy enough, and much too included to be gemstone quality. Would you please cut it out with carat weights on beaded necklaces? But what's even worse, by far, is JTV selling rocks for wire wrapping, and measuring those in carats. Makes me choke every time. Isn't it the kind of stuff you would buy at a souvenir shop $1.00 per rock, to be used as paperweights? What's next? They're going to start weighing river rocks, typically sold for home decor purposes? Or have you ever wondered how many carats would be in your kitchen Granite counter top? And while you're at it, I demand to be informed of the carat weight of my bathroom marble tile, as well! I mean, seriously, this is getting ridiculous!
