can't provide service - DSL Service

I moved in mid April, 2009, and went to dslextreme.com to move my service from my old address. Website said that their service was available at my new address. When I called for further information, I was told that they couldn't give me service at my new address and that I had to call Verizon. Didn't want to call Verizon - I hate Verizon. They told me that was my only option. Called Verizon, they confirmed that I couldn't get DSL at my new address because prior occupants had Fios installed. Signed up with Verizon since DSL extreme didn't offer fiber optic. Called DSL Extreme back to let them know that I did what they recommended. I was then told that since I canceled my contract with them, I had to pay the contract! Seriously?? I wanted their service - they said they couldn't provide service. Didn't they cancel the contract?? Now they have charged my bank account $253.69. They keep insisting that I canceled the contract. I don't think so!

I too am a DSLExtreme sucker. I had dry-loop internet (no land-line,no dial up to access) @ $29.95/month & moved April 2009. Also told no support in new area because of Verizon...I hate Verizon too. DSL clerk offered no alternatives. It was quiet for about 30 sec on phone. I asked for alternatives. The clerk said I could cancel for $250 fee. (that's gangster) Long-story made short, I kept offering my own alternatives & found out after 10 calls to different clerks & 10 "live chat" sessions you can add dial-up service for extra $5/month. The catch is you have to get a land-line phone number (with Verizon because that's the company supported by DSLExtreme & my new area), so I got the cheapest I could at $19.95/month. So now I pay $35/mo internet (slow dial up) + $20 or more for land-line phone number I will never use except to access internet...avoid DSLExtreme.

I also moved in April to a location which is not covered by dxlextreme, and am now out $297.66 because of it. I was referred to "terms and conditions" which took the customer service rep 5 minutes to find, which says, in the very fine print, that I'm liable. I feel robbed...
