This company is a piece of work! I am an existing customer, with the unit in my wife's name. For a second unit, they wanted me to fill out an application (fine!), but they wanted to fingerprint me (no way!). It's their policy! No way I am letting some random business have my fingerprints. When I told them no, they got really belligerent and rude. I walked out of there and am looking at other places now. I asked at UHAUL and another local place and they don't fingerprint.
Extra Space has a nice facility, but it is not worth the extra money or the invasion of privacy and aggravation.

All of you people that think that it is okay to give your fingerprints to anyone other than a government agency are crazy! At least with the government there are laws that govern how the fingerprints are stored, etc. I have given mine to the US Army to get a top secret clearance, but for a storage space? Hell no! This falls under unreasonable search and seizure, a constitutional right! With the thought, "you must have something to hide".....then why don't we have police just go into any house and search it? You shouldn't have a problem with that "if you have nothing to hide”. Amazing times called it correctly, a thief will just wear gloves, then what good will the fingerprints be? NONE! Wake up people!

Same thing happened today use of coercion to take fingerprints from Lady I was with who had time limit, so she wrote she objected, sealed the fingerprint card in an envelope for later Court exhibit and because I am a paralegal, under Mass General Laws Chapter 214, section 1B right to privacy statute I am going to litigate the matter. ESS has no legitimate basis for taking prints because they do not run them to locate terrorists or criminal who could plant bombs, but merely places the fingerprints in a file to return them after rental time is over. The brainwashed employee's claims of no complaints since 9/11 when the policy was started is bullshit, the lack of prior fair warning or notice is also unlawful because they sneak the fingerprint card on you after you pay and filled out contract agreement first. Anyone else who wants help suing this business contact me at my website paralegalwerewolf.com or email paralegalassociates@hotmail.com

The purpose of this request is to discourage a person with improper and or illegal intent from renting a unit with Extra Space!! So if you don't like it then thats cuz your a criminal! rujith> why the effin would she give U finger prints who are you? the manager just works there and if he had to rent a unit he woudl also accept to do finger printing..

Notacriminal: Sure, it's good that they fingerprint, but I don't understand why the manager refused to give me his fingerprints in return.

It is amazing that people give up their rights and their privacy so quickly. If someone wants blood or a DNA test you going to give them that information so readily as well? Why not?
If I were to rent from ES knowing that they fingerprint and I was with criminal intent, why wouldn't I just wear gloves? It's really that easy.

I like that they fingerprint. It shows that they deter the thiefs from renting there. The management there says that its returned when customer vacate. If you dont want to give your prints, then you have something to hide. I would rent there.

Sorry, I meant to say: "If honorable people don't refuse to give their
fingerprints ..."

ParrotGirl: If only honorable people refuse to give fingerprints: I asked
the Extraspace manager to give me his fingerprints in return. But he
refused to do so. Why do you think he didn't want to do that? - Rujith.

Invasion of privacy? It's just fingerprints. The only people offended by this practice are the criminals they don't want to do business with. Public Storage isn't half the price. ExtraSpace has excellent security and I feel comfortable on their premises.

It seems to reason that people who refuse the fingerpring practices at Extra Space are the customers who have less than honorable intentions. As part of the security and a nationwide program at Extra Space, I think it's a great program that helps keep criminals out of their facilities. It takes less than 5 seconds to give up 3 fingerprints- not a hassle or invasion of privacy at all!

I had the same experience. I have rented a storage space for 5 years and spent $1000s dollars. I needed an additional space for a few months and they demanded my fingerprints. They have no way of securing my privacy or identity. I moved out the same day to Public Storage for 1/2 the price and NO prints.
