McDonald's (McDonalds) Complaint

Towing Scam

The McDonalds on Albany Avenue in Atlantic City New Jersey is running a towing scam. They have signs saying Patron Parking Only or you will be towed, but on a few very small signs, most posted below eye level and behind parked cars, at the bottom (not all of the signs) it says "Dine In Customer Only Parking" - 45 minute limit. I ate at McDonalds on August 31, 2008, walked across the street and when I returned a few minutes later my car was being towed. I couldn't believe it? I ended up being out $80 and I am sure that the Manager of McDonalds and the Towing company have a scam going on. I saw several cars being towed from the lot, and a few angry patrons, just in the short time I was trying to sort this out with the Manager who wouldn't be budged. I wonder how much he's (a Mr. Tuliano) raking in for this - a lot I expect. The tow truck driver looked like his twin and he wouldn't give me his name.

NO WAY is there 10 signs. There is ONE sign located on the side of the parking lot. I was victim of this scam yesterday. I was parked there for 90 minutes, about 15 were spent directly across the street. The owner finally called me back today (after I called his office for the 4th time threatening to go to the AC BBB and Div. of Tourism)to explain that he isn't associated with 14 Towing, but I find that very hard to believe. STAY away from this place....I even suggested to him that the towing company should come into the restaurant and ask if anyone owns the car that is going to be towed (in case the person decided to stay and relax for more than 45 minutes) and I was told it would take too much time. HOW REDICULOUS is THAT?!?!? Can you imagine owning a restaurant, and towing your patrons car away while they are eating??? I would imagine that you wouldn't be in business very long!!!! But, since this is such a populated area (and a tourist destination) they can afford to do this and probably split the towing profits. I guess if you were going to pocket $50 bucks from a towing scam, it would more than make up for the loss of future business. I would have to buy 50 cheese burgers to make up the difference, so he's way ahead of the game. It's unfortunate that this owner can hide behind the fact that he has to protect his lot from people parking for the outlet shopping as his justification for doing this. As a note....I was just about the only car parked there at that time....not like I was taking up a space that could have been used for the next patron. This is a shameful practice....and the owner should be ashamed.

There must be a lot of people who can't read or see then because I saw several cars being towed and one man yelling on the phone. As far as 30 minutes I won't argue with you except to say that that's your opinion, but not the fact. But, since I was eating in my car for part of the time this would count since the store does not warn you if you are sitting in your car. I can appreciate that this McDonalds has to protect it's parking, but I'm sorry I only saw "ONE" dine in sign that was posted very low on a pole behind cars not 10. And there were many "large" signs very clearly visible and posted high up that didn't indicate Dine In only. Why can't this McDonalds indicate "Dine In Only" on all the signs? I would definitely not have parked here if I saw this sign. Do you think I enjoyed shelling out $80 when I could have parked two blocks down or so for only $5 for the whole day? C'mon this is not as clear cut as you would like it to be. It is easy to justify anything I know, but this McDonalds should make some changes and I still feel I was scammed based on how I was treated and what I saw (I have pictures of the signs if you don't believe me). If it isn't a scam (I'll give Mr. Tuliano the benefit of the doubt) then at a minimum he is stubborn for refusing to admit that he "may" need to make some minor adjustments to avoid irritating a lot of good long time McDonald's Customers as I was - I have been going to McDonalds since the first ones opened years ago. Now I avoid them (at least until I get an apology or confirmation that this McDonalds will make some adjustments). Again if you don't believe me I will email you the signs - visible ones (at least that I saw) did not say DINE IN ONLY. Low posted one - that was nearest my car when I parked - DINE IN ONLY - but not clearly visible. Think about it - If you read one or two signs at first that don't have this warning are you going to walk all around McDonalds just to read "all the signs" to make sure that they all say the same thing? I read at least two that didn't have the warning and made my decision to park, eat, walk across the street - and then paid for it. NO - your comment is a bit off.

Being near outlet stores its a must 75 percent of the cars in that lot are abuseing the privelage to be there so when you say a few minutes you went to the store it was probally more like a half hour, you messed up and its ok but dont blaim mcdonalds for haveing the right to control who parks in there lot..
