They get you every time

I had Verizon service for years and when I changed service providers (3/08)they stated that I owed them 274.91 from 2005. I called and tried to resolve this issue as if I owed it why am I just now hearing about it after they turned me over to collections. They had been my service provider the whole time and knew exactly where to send the bills so why once I am no longer using their service did this come about. I talked to other people that I know and they stated that the same problem happened to them. I would never recommend Verizon to anyone and I used to think that they were the best. BOY, WAS I WRONG...
