They do not work - agua globe

I purchased 4 from walmart and cannot get them to work. When I insert them into the potted plant, the end plugs up with dirt. I cannot get the dirt to stay out of the opening, and therefore no water can get into the soil. Help!

It seems to me that if dirt gets in the neck that water will make it wet and as a result will make the other dirt wet might take time but thier suppost to last two weeks I also belive soil should be sandy this way it won't harden like dough
