Today, Veteran's Day, my friend and I visited the Applebee's at 660 Whitney Way in Madison, Wisconsin to take advantage of their offer of free dining for Veterans. We were greeted by a surly waiter who treated us like two poor freeloaders. He was terse and rude in the extreme and twenty minutes after he took our order from the small menu of five selections we were offered, he slammed down our sodas and told us that he had somehow lost our order. We stared at him in disbelief and then reordered. He never apologized and we waited another twenty minutes while people who had arrived after us were being served by this same waiter. He never checked to see how we were. I told the Manager who finally had to serve us our meals and he was apologetic but when we stated that we would never eat at any Applebee's he just kept repeating himself, as if from a script. To Applebees , we did not exist, nor, unfortunately, did the free lunch!
