The Pavilion Theater in Park Slope seemed like such a promising idea when it started - a little cafe, independent movies, the perfect scene for a lefty neighborhood. But it's turned into a horror show - yes, it still shows independent flicks as well as the box office smashes; it is also filthy, the theaters tiny, the walls thin, the staff surly and sullen. It's a dreadful place...and it's the only movie theater in an affluent and demanding neighborhood - I just don't understand why it hasn't either improved or been replaced with something nicer.
