The Hungry Cat restaurant - arguably some of the best
food in town. no joke. fairly priced too. the problem with this
relatively new cult and critic favorite is that the service is very
pretentious for a place that sells itself as down to earth, and is
basically in a mall. don’t get me wrong — most of the waiters and
bartenders are beyond nice, but one stipulation that always comes up
is their “no special orders’ policy. That is to say, you can’t make
any additional requests with or about a dish — even something minor.
don’t want pine nuts on your salad? tough. can i have the cilantro on
the side? nope. like the bacon on your burger cooked a bit crispier
than usual? sorry…the chef only does it one way. they have a
culinary nose in the air that is, while justified (because the food
is killer), it’s a bummer as paying customer to be told no for a
simple request.
