Never use home depots installers if you have more than "one project". It's confusing as each will have a separate contract and payment. Also you will not receive any invoice letting you know if you have any open payments. You'll find out by receiving a threatening letter called “An attempt to collect a debt” as your FIRST notice that your account is still “open” and unpaid.

It is unclear to a customer that a debt is still open when an invoice is NEVER received. I called my sales associate upon receipt of the threatening legal action and threat to report me to credit agencies.

Home Depot uses different sub contractors for various projects and writes a different contract for each project. One “sub-contractor” did not leave me an invoice nor did they request any payment. The other sub-contractor asked for final payment once the second “broken” window was finally installed. Yes, my new windows arrived broken, TWICE. I asked if the check I was writing was payment “In-full” and was told “yes”. My assumption was this was my "total" payment...not realizing there was still money owed to another sub contractor.

I have never received a call, invoice or any notice that I owed any other money until the legal threatening letter arrived. I did receive a “generic” message asking if we had any issues. Since I haven’t had any issues I didn’t return the call as the message never mentioned an open balance.

My sales rep said the project manager most likely didn’t leave a message about the money owed since there had been several issues with the windows. He also said I most likely didn’t receive an invoice as the broken window issues had not been resolved and it’s not a “good experience” to ask for money when there are open issues with an account. My experience has been dreadful. Home Depots lack of process has left me feeling like a victim subjected to harassment for a payment I clearly never knew was still unpaid. I’m NOT dead-beat trying to skip out on a payment.

I am very DISAPPOINTED in the service of Home Depot. We had two broken windows upon delivery. This has been resolved, but now if we “open” the windows it’s nearly impossible to get them to lock. Worse yet, we NEVER received ANY invoice for the storm protection – until the threatening letter arrived.

Thank GOD for LOWES. I will NEVER shop at Home Depot again. And trust me, I’ll tell everyone I know how badly Home Depot treats customers.

A former and long-time Home Depot customer.

The payment issue is also true when you purchase products with the HD credit card. They tell you you don't have to make any payments for up to one year and then they never send you a bill during that year and BAM you get hit with the huge acrude interest charges and almost double the cost of what you bought!

Did you ever signed a contract with the Home Depot?
If you did most likely you had a grand total, if the amount you paid was less than this grand total you could have figured out the amount of money you owed...
Do your windows have a lifetime warranty? if so why don't you use it. You write like a logical, intelligent person, why would you pay 100% for a project that is not finished? E.G. broken windows?
