Signed One year contract, DTV says we signed for 18 mos. - Term of Service

When we signed up for Direct TV on Dec. 27, 2007, the installers had a contract that stated our term of service was for one year (12 months), which we signed. When I called to cancel service on 2-25-2009, the customer rep for Direct TV informed me that we signed up for an 18 month term of service, and that we would be charged an $80 early disconnect fee. Extremely unethical customer abuse. Not charging us an early disconnect fee would be the right thing for Direct TV to do. I will go to the Better Business Bureau in order to fight the disconnect fee.

I have so many complaints against directtv I do not know where to begin. I have been billed for an enormous amount that was suppose to be bundled with AT&T which never happened. I am now tryint to break my contrace after just 4 months. I cannot get an addres to write them. The worse system I have ever had is directtv together with AT&T. This is a big joke! Don't do it!

customer no service supervisor said he will charge me $340 and discount $20 when i request cancellation within one week of installation. asked for mailing address he said he could not provide one, because he has 200-300 addresses, very frustrating; will look for consumer hotline.

that is exactly what happened to us!!! I am extremely disappointed at the lack of professional service. We live in CA. We first got Direct TV on 10/06 and then moved to a different city on 12/07 the contract was already expired...I wanted to cancel, but they insisted and we ended up with a new contract for another year. I called on Feb 2009 to cancel...this time, I was determined. They told me that my new contract didn't expire on January 2009, but July 2008!!! and if I wanted to cancel I needed to pay $120. I called and filed a complaint with the office of the California Attorney General Edmund Brown, Public Inquiry Unit(916) 322-3360
and Direct TV responded with a letter that indeed my contract was for 12 months, but there was a systems error that they had corrected...and a whole bunch of BS. In short, please do file a complaint if you have experienced the same issues!!

Our Direct TV worked fine until we upgraded to HD - since then we are constantly losing it - searching for... or gets all pixelly - after months of constant phone calls to Direct, 2 HD receivers, 3 service calls (takes them 2 -3 wks to come each time) - the people answering the phone don't seem to know anything. We are stuck in this contract and paying for HD which we only have about 10% of the time. Very frustrating - wish we could go back to cable.
