Safeway job hunting

First of all let me just explain me circumstances. I am currently a graduate student and a student teacher. Since there is not really a lot of teaching position available during the summer, I usually take a seasonal retail job. Previously working at Longs Drugs (now CVS) as a clerk and manager has given me the confidence to work in any retail environment, so I often choose to seek retail jobs for the summer. Of course, I understand not to expect a job but I do expect respect and courtesy from Safeway management, which is why I'm writing today. I had previously put in a job application for your downtown Martinez Safeway, in which I'm also a customer. When I called back to inquire about my application I was referred to a manager by the name of Cathy. Before I could even complete my sentence about my prior job application, she cut me off and bluntly said, "I don't have any openings" and hung up the phone on me. Now I didn't expect her to be overly friendly, but I did at least expect her to listen to my inquiry and not hang up the phone on me. I just thought

I would let you guys know how job seekers (who might also be customers) are being greeted.
