Safari Books Online Complaint

Ripped off by Safari Books

On August 29 I purchased a Safari Library subscription under the impression that it would include unlimited PDF downloads. I immediately in my account that I had no more download tokens than the lower priced subscription, so I contacted customer service about downgrading my subscription.

A person named Murali informed me via email that the $42.99 charge had been "caught" before being processed and a $22.99 charge applied. That would have been all fine and good if that had been what really happened.

What really happened is that I got charged both $44.99 and $22.99. I sent customer service the transaction confirmation numbers, the last six digits of my CC number, but against irrefutable proof, this jerk named Murali insists that I was only charged $22.99.

Since these transactions are recorded on both sides, I know there is a record on Safari's side, but Murali is just too lazy or incompetent to do the work of researching and correcting the mistake.

So here it is, September 3. I've been going back and forth with this nightmare at Safari customer "service," and I am really sore that I have been ripped off $44.99 and that I have gone through so much effort to try to get customer service to correct the mistake. But they are just blowing me off.

Dear Robert -

Your account was downgraded at your request on 8/28/08. At that time $20 of the initial $42.99 charge was cancelled - making the final amount charged to your card $22.99. I have sent you an email clarifying this as well as other issues you have raised.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you,
Diane

You should be a little more patient! Sometimes the charges overlap and you will se the second charge removed from your statement. SO, instead of calling someone you don't even know a "jerk", maybe you should take a look in the mirror and relax. I am sure the customer service person is doing a great job and is telling you exactly what he sees in the system. That is the best they can do.

Anyway… good luck and don't forget to take your meds again.
