In December 2007 my parents were approached by a sales representative for EDS Emergency Detection Systems of Las Vegas who are affiliated with Monotronics in Dallas Texas.

The EDS Emergency Detection Systems representative activated an alarm at my parents new house that had been already installed . Since they already had a top quality alarm installed at their new Las Vegas house, we did not need any alarm components or installation, just activation.

EDS Emergency Detection Systems on their website http://www.emergencydetectionsystems.com/ advertises zero for installation, zero for equipment. A three year contract is required.

But with no installation or equipment required we wished just month to month service EDS Emergency Detection Systems subsequently charged us $399 for installation since a three year contract would not be signed. This is a ridiculous price.

I can see the $49 charge that other companies charge.

My parents who arranged for EDS Emergency Detection Systems are elderly and they were clearly taken advantage off. The company representative was a bullying arrogant man who told me that they did not care that I had complained to the Better Business Bureau.

EDS Emergency Detection Systems clearly does not care about having a poor reputation or poor customer service. This does not even begin to address their faulty installation and workmanship rendered when simply setting up the equipment to call them.

EDS Emergency Detection Systems should not be a consideration in your alarm company installers and monitoring service requirements.

If you need alarm monitoring, access control, cameras, video monitoring or home and business security systems in Las Vegas, there are many choices other than EDS Emergency Detection Systems. Companies that will not be unreliable, incompetent and unscrupulous.

EDS Emergency Detection Systems is a poor choice and not deserving of your business.

EDS Emergency Detection Systems has shown to be predatory, opportunistic and EDS Emergency Detection Systems clearly does not deserve you business in Las Vegas and Nevada

This is because EDS Emergency Detection Systems just sell your contract to Monitronics so they have no vested interest in your satisfaction after they have taken your money.

EDS Emergency Detection Systems has large Better Business Bureau logos all over their website and other advertising but clearly stated to me that they did not care about our complaint to Better Business Bureau

EDS Emergency Detection Systems I am voting with my feet. You can have the $399. It is only money, a $399 price tag for which you sold your integrity and the reputation of EDS Emergency Detection Systems. So we know your price and now we know how well it defines what EDS Emergency Detection Systems is.

Readers , you can expect this is how EDS Emergency Detection Systems will treat you and value your business. Do not give them this chance. EDS Emergency Detection Systems should be off your list of candidates for home and business alarm system installation and monitoring in Las Vegas.

Who ever I spoke to on the phone this week started the conversation with, "Look I don't even care about your complaint to Better Business Bureau" . That is the truth. Readers can believe what they want. But your arrogance wears like a bad haircut. So I am not so sure you win on that. I will eat the 400 bucks because I CANNOT GET THE SERVICE I REQUIRE FROM EDS. I pointed this out several times but apparently you could not stop frothing at the mouth long enough to read. EDS WILL NOT RESECURE THE PREMISES after an event. I called and checked several times anonymously and was told the same thing. So the lack of service is at least consistent. We need a company that will resecure the premises after an event if we are not in town to do so ourselves, since we do not have relatives or contacts here yet. To be fair you are not the only company who would not do this. But since this is an essential service for us we have no choice. I made the mistake of assuming this was a normal service as I worked several years in security and this was my job and it was standard. So we made the mistake of choosing the wrong EDS and we paid for it. $399 to be precise. Actualy $448 because now we have to pay $49 to Protection One for the new hook up. Thats right, since we had a system already (which we paid for twice by choosing your company inititially)it's $49 but if we sign a three year deal with them they will put in two way radio and wireless cellular conection to bypass a telephone line cut. And they will secure the premises if we have an event. They will enter the house make sure the bad guys didnt leave a small fire burning or dead rodents in our bed and plywood a window or whatever. So maybe it is your policy but when you see what everyone else was willing to offer and realize how you were shafted it smells as bad as it looks. And I am the type of guy who really likes to share. So if readers are doing their diligence on the web in looking into alarm companies, they can shorten the list by one if they want a company that is a security company not a sales company and a company who will secure their premises after an event. But it is good to know you have at least two people on our street who would say you are great. How is your mom and dad anyways?

We have only had 3 BBB complaints in 9 years. We also never said that we dont care about it. This is a complete lie. Anyone can check out our oustanding record with the BBB. Your complaint was addressed, and by your own admission you said we offered you the 399 back if you sign up like everyone else. This wasnt good enough, but again you are lying about the way we dealt with the BBB. Try telling the truth, it will make you feel good

Here let me quote you.."But as far as I know the guy who was sent out was an independant contractor." This statement is false and misleading, so why are you repeating it? The technicians are EMPLOYEES, NOT SUBCONTRACTORS. Again though, the whole issue of your complaint about the 399 dollars has now been squashed. The funny thing is, now you are going to use pro 1, not get your 400 bucks back, and pay more per month on a 36 month contract. (Talk about biting off your nose to spite your face). Anyway, my responses here are done, and I believe I have thoroughly proven my case. My satisfied customers, 2 of which are on your street Nhartvig, send me lots of referrals and get paid for them, and our happy client base continues to grow. But even after offering you back 100% of your 399 bucks, you still arent happy. Like I said, some people just love to complain. I wish you the best with your new company, and because you paid the 399 bucks to have the right to be able to cancel, and you exercised that right, i will wish you good wishes with the new company with whom you will pay more money. I just ask that if you are going to post things about EDS, make sure they are true. Making up assumptive lies like you have been wont be isnt very nice or fair. You dishonesty will be challenged. I have been doing this for 13 years, and you are the 2nd such person in 13 years to just complain to no end over something completely illegitimate. Again I wish you good luck Nhartvig.

I am not lieing. But as far as I know the guy who was sent out was an independant contractor. And you just said you "job out" the response, and we know you job out the monitoring, and "you" work on comission, (which is why we had to pay a $400 fee for a non installtion.) So what is it EDS actually does then ? Sell sell sell

An armed response is standard. You make it sound like only you provide it. In fact you make it sound like this with everything. What I said was that EDS WOULD NOT RESECURE THE PREMISES after an event. What does this mean when you are in Paris and your window is broken or front door smashed in ? It means the armed response would drive by and wave but would not investigate and resecure the premises. Liability issues I am told. In english it is too much hassle and we might get sued and where is the comission in that. So there goes your holiday and your house unsecured for however long it takes to get back. We buy security for peace of mind and this is certainly not it.So why buy from a company calls its customer liars, opens complaint issues with "we don't care about your Better Business Bureau complaint

Well once again Nhartvig is being dishonest. The technicians are employees of EDS, and are not subcontractors. EDS provides sales, installation, and sevice as a Monitronics Dealer. I have several clients who are member of the Las Vegas Metro PD who live right in your neighborhood Nhartvig, and who are all happy with EDS and the great service we provide. If you want adresses and names ill be happy to stop by your home and provide those for you, as some of my LVMPD clients have told me it is ok if their neighbors want to ask them about our service. Also, we use maxwell armed guard response, who will respond to any alarm when it goes off. So as far as not having response, please stop lying Nhartvig, as you are not doing yourself any favors.

Sorry missed the second comment.Too be fair a refund was offered if we signed for three years but not only could EDS not promise to resecure the premises if we were away when an event was triggered. They never should have charged 400.00 for a system install where all the gear was present and installed already. EDS said (like they did about no companies offering service without a contract) that no one would offer to secure your house if you were away when an event ocurred. In fact we easily found three companies including Protection One who offer such a service. The price is miniscule higher (2 bucks a month). So if you are away from your house on vacation and business a lot EDS cannot provide this critical peace of mind. Why ?it requires service and they are a sales organization only

I noticed you didnt respond at all about the 399 dollars in your response. Now all can see the illegitimacy of your complaint. Thanks for your time nhartvig, and I wish you all the best

Yep well you made it pretty clear it is about the comission. The reference to installation work is because when you sent your guy out to allegedly install the system (set it up for Monitronics monitoring) he left multiple things done wrong leaving our house unprotected for several months until we discovered it accidentally. Your service tech rectified it but after he left once again we realized he had forgotten to connect it to the alarm and a third visit was required. But then I think you contract out your tech work as well. So what is EDS then, They do not install or do tech work or monitor so what are they ? A sales front end. Now we understand why it is all about the comission

One other thing nhartvig, we offered to completely refund the 399 dollars if you would sign the agreement for 36 months at 29.99/month. This was refused by you, so again your complaints are illegitimate. You could have and still can get your 399 dollars back, just sign up like all our other customers. Some people no matter what you do you just cant please.

Hi there I am the actual sales rep who sold this deal and charged them 399.00. And here is why. I explained to the customer that because they have the alarm system already installed, I can give them a discounted monitoring rate of 29.99.mo (usually 34.99/mo.) all they do is sign up for 36 months and we do everything for free(program, download, and activate system) The customer didnt want to sign up for 36 months, so i gave them the option of paying 399.00 and they could go month to month and cancel whenever they wanted. Keep in mind i would have much rather not charged them anything and had them sign the agreement, as my commission would have been double what it was having collected the 399. Because they didnt sign the 3 year agreement, we did not sell the contract to monitronics, and it was kept as an "in house" account(still monitored thru monitronics, but never sold) So in this aspect the customer is misleading you. I actually remember telling this customers parents...begging them really...PLEASE DO NOT PAY THE 400 bucks, just sign the 3 yr agreement. But again they insisted upon a month to month agreement. So I said i can do it for the 399, to which they agreed and paid with a credit card. They got what they wanted, a month to month agreement that can be cancelled at any time. You see, when you sign a 3 yr agreement, you are committing to over 1,000 dollars over the 3 years at 29.99/month. This allows the company to pay the sales rep, the technician, and make a profit. However, if we send a technician out and pay him 150 dollars to do his job, and you pay us 29.99 for 1 month and cancel the next month, then we the company lose money. This is the reason for the 399 charge. We have to pay the sales rep, the tech, and the company, all so you can go month to month. I think this sums it up. As far as your complaint sir, its funny how you say our "installation" work was bad when you yourself admitted the system was already installed. Obviously your complaints are illigitimate. Once again, as the sales rep who wrote this sale, you got a discounted monitoring rate and a month to month contract. Thats why you paid 399. Sign up for 36 months like everyone else, and pay absolutely nothing up front, just like everyone else. Good Luck to you.
