Right Start gives WRONG impression - Online orders/returns/exchanges

My husband and I ordered the Graco Snugride carseat for infants in Platinum because consumer reports said it was great and very safe, highest rank, etc. and because it looked WHITE in the images online and in the catalog we were thrilled as we wanted something funky and unusual, spacey looking. Not wanting the usual green or pink or blue or black (why oh why do carseats have to be so UGLY???).
So we ordered and received the item and it is not white, it's not even cream it's almost brown - ugly to be sure.
So I called to ask if they could exchange it, there is no right start store in our town and the closest one is three hours away. They said sure I could exchange it but I had to pay for shipping - excuse me?? You misrepresent the color of an item on your site and want me to pay for shipping??
So we drove the three hours to the store to try to exchange it there (bear in mind we had the tags and box and everything - took it out of the box to say NO THANKS an dit went right back in) so we get to the store and they didn't have hardly any stock for us to choose from so we just returned the darn thing.
Frustrating!
