Power button and sleep

I recieved a Gateway laptop as a gift in 2006. It would shut-down a lot for no reason. I didn't know that would be something that would continue to happening. The power button also broke on it and I had to take it to have the power button fixed. Three months later, the button is broken and Best Buy tell me they can't fix it because the extended warranty had expired. I thought Gateway would be better quality than this. I am so disappointed.
