On my way back rom Istanbul, I had an hour to connect to my transfer flight from Paris to JFK. The flight landed on time but when we got to our gate, they wouldn't let us board because our luggage hadn't been transferred, and would have to wait for the next flight, even though the plane was still at the gate, and the doors were still open. When we asked for some special consideration because of their screw-up, they said I should speak to a supervisor.

From then on, I spoke to at least four different representatives from the flight we weren't allowed on, to the new flight's ground staff. All of them referred us on to the next supervisor, until the last one told us they could only do seat upgrades on board, based on availability. So I spoke to the head steward on the flight, who said she would check and if business class wasn't full, maybe we could be upgraded. Then, true to her word, she came back with the flight "bursar" (not sure what that title means), who told us seat changes could only be done at the gate. When I told her the woman at the gate told us the opposite, she shrugged and suggested I write the airline. I did that, and will also write anywhere else I can about what a bunch of assholes I encountered in looking for a little help from Air France .
