My brother ordered a Dell...

My brother ordered a Dell Inspiron 1150 computer in December of 2004, and I've numerous problems with that company ever since. There were a number of things I saw in the specs that Dell failed to address - the laptop was supposed to come with a wireless card, but never got it. It was supposed to have a year's subscription for anti-virus software, but I only got a three-month trial. In fact, most of the software, including JASC Photo Shop, was trial only

And, the power cord died several months after the laptop was purchased and I had to fight Dell tooth and nail to get them to replace it. There was supposed to be a cd burner, but the laptop never came with one. I had to fight to get Dell to send me an external burner.

And now the right hinge is busted and the left one is cracked. I have to keep this laptop, when open, with a tall container of flour/sugar or a large book behind it so I can use it.

Yes, this is the quality of Dell products!

I asked Dell to take me off their mailing list, and they refused. I spoke with numerous CSR's, all of whom said they submitted the request and that I wouldn't get any further mailings, but they continue to come. And one person, with whom I used to deal with regularly when I complained about the missing items my computer should have came with, refused to return my calls about those mailings.

So, in February of 2007 I sent a certified letter to Michael Dell in Dallas and ordered him to stop the mailings. I have the return receipt as proof that the letter was signed for. Only problem is, here we are, towards the end of January 2008 and I'm still getting these mailings (um, aren't companies to honor such request in writing??? isn't this the law???). I just got one several days ago, so I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

A couple of days ago I got a call from a Dell rep who said she was calling in response to the BBB complaint. She assured me that I would be taken off the mailing list, but I told her I would give Dell only one month. They have until February 25th to remove my name. If I get anything after that, I intend to sue.

Btw, in addition to my insistence that Dell remove me from their mailing list, I told that woman that I wanted the other thing I asked for in the complaint - to honor my request for a replacement laptop since this one is a piece of garbage and it's ready to fall apart, and to make up for all the grief they caused me. She, of course, refused.

I'm going to file another BBB complaint, but I want everyone out there to know about what happened to me and take heed. If you're shopping around for a computer, whether it is a laptop or desktop, think twice before buying a Dell. I wish I did. I was thinking about buying a Toshiba laptop prior to when I got this piece of garbage and changed my mind. I am so sorry!

I don't see how the people at Dell can sleep at night, knowing what they do to people. For shame!
