In April of 2007 Carol Dax Richardson purchased an airline ticket From Northwest Airlines from Spokane to Green Bay, Wisconsin departing on September 5th and returning on September 11th. On May 25,2007 her husband had a stroke and was hospitalized and Mrs Richardson had to stay home to care for him. On July 3rd of 2007 she cancelled her flight with NorthWest and requested them to return the $383 cost of the ticket. They refused to return any funds but told her she had a credit for $383 on another flight if used within one year. Nothing in writing but only that it was in their computers as a credit. Several phone calls to various emplyees including supervisors was all to no avail.
They claimed she should have bought insurance to cover such unknowns. She was under the impression that insurance was for accidents. On second thought, perhaps she should have bought the insurance knowing their record of pilots flying drunk etc. This is a 73 year old woman living on Social Security and can ill afford to lose this amount of money and the chances of using this credit within one year is about a 100 to 1. This ticket was cancelled about 60 days before departure date and I am sure they sold that seat to someone else. Later I read a review on Northwest about a man that was issued such a credit and when he went to use it he had to pay the cancellation cost plus a $100 fee for reinstating the ticket. It is no wonder NorthWest has been in and out of bankruptcy several times. Wayne Richardson
