I get iffy experiences at Radio Shack. A couple of times they've tried to sell me on the expensive item rather than its cheaper alternative - in a pushy sort of way, where I don't really get to explore the true differences (or similarities) between the two. Other times they've been quite helpful and not pushy at all. I do get a little bit of attitude because I'm a woman, however. Not too long ago I took down my wireless router and wired up all my computers instead (someone was filching my DSL) and the guy at Radio Shack totally acted like there was no way I could know what I was doing. That pissed me off.

But other times, as I say, they're genuinely helpful. I guess it depends on who you get - and as their staff rotates pretty frequently, you never know who that'll be.

I am an employee of radio shack. I am the genuinely helpful guy you speak of. Radioshack demands we as Sales Associates qualify the customer fully. This means you get what you came for even if you dont know all about it. We also do work on a commission basis. We also have company expectations. Though radioshack strives to employ genuine people it really is difficult to find people willing to fall short on company expectations, to serve their customer properly. I can only advise you that there are people like me in the company who will turn away a sale if it really is serving my customer right. This is why when you find an associate like me.... Ask them for a card. Not only will you make my day, but it enforces to my boss that my methods are right, and encourage repeat business. Lessoning the chance of me losing my job because i tell you genuinely what you need. Call my DM and compliment me on my service and make sure were not disposed of. There are signs at ALL registers with the DMs direct Cell phone number to comment to. Its not only the companies fault the good Associates are replaced. You are the customer... you really have the power here.
