On Thursday 6/12/2008 at about 6:30pm my mother, my little brother and I went to buy a father’s day present. We went to Ulta in Mooresville looking for a shaving mirror. We were in the store about ten minutes and were unable to find one we liked. We left the store without buying anything. During our time at the store a couple of the sales associates asked if they could help us with anything. It was noticeable they were following us even though there were other customers in the store. Since we couldn’t find what we needed we walked down the road to Bed Bath and Beyond. While we were at the store the manager from Ulta came in and told the sales associate there that two thieves just walked into her store, and they just stole a curling iron from her. Then she continued to walk up to us and said, “Honey, I know you stole a curling iron from my store and I have you on TAPE!. I just called the cops and they are on their way. You better leave before you get arrested”. We were absolutely shocked and ashamed. We knew there was no proof because we hadn’t taken anything. We told her we would like to see the proof and talk to the cops and she said “I don’t want you in my store you better leave!!”. At this point started walking down to Ulta to find out exactly what happened. We saw the police car pulling up and my mom stopped him and said we are who he is looking for and would like to go back to the store and settle the mess. We walked in the store and everyone looked at us like we were criminals. There was no video of anything, and no one said they saw us doing anything. All the manager had to say was that she suspected we did it. There were plenty of other people in that store and we were the only ones targeted!. Our only \"fault\" was that we were speaking Spanish while shopping in the store. I know there is no law in the United States that prohibits me to speak Spanish. She was unable to press charges due to the lack of proof. To us that doesn’t make it better. We were falsely accused and embarrassed. We were victims of racial profiling and defamation of character. She didn’t even say she was sorry and continue to believe we took the curling iron. It was the worst time of our lives. We can’t sleep and the whole situation is taking an emotional toll on us. My brother doesn’t understand why someone would do something like that. We are all having nightmares and still can’t believe that actually happen. The manager’s name is Larissa, and she refuse to give us her district manager’s name so that we could call and complain. I called Ulta’s customer service number on Thursday 6/12/08 and filed a complaint. They said they were very sorry and would call the store and talked to them. I called again on Saturday 6/14/2008 and talked to Christian in customer service. He took \"my side\" of the story, and told me the manager on duty (Larissa) had called them while everything was happening. He said the report stated that we were speaking Spanish while in the store and she didn’t understand us. This shows that race did play a major role in the incident.

I work For ULTA. . . ."heartmassacre" how do you find this funny? First of all The InStyle Subcription REQUIRES you to sign the small Piece of CARD STOCK, if you don't sign you card information is safe. If you do sign then change your mind ask the cashier to rip it up and throw it away in front of you or keep. it. If it still goes through then you have a complaint. You MUST pay attention to what you are signing!!! AS for the original complaint i am so sorry that you had to deal with such ignorant people. As Per ULTA policy tehy acn't even approach or accuse you if they didn't SEE you physically take something or if you were actually caught on camera. The way you were treated is disgusting and not in any way supported or endorsed by ULTA Corp.

imakepeoplebeautiful - You don't know what you are talking about. My wife was in ULTA on Saturday & they asked if she wanted a free copy of InStyle. She said yes. They typed something in the computer & asked her to sign something. She refused & they told her that InStyle already had her credit card information from the puchase she just made & they could not cancel it. So, she didn't sign anything, but they said they alreay gave InStyle her credit card number. I plan on filing a complaint today.

STAY AWAY FROM ULTA! My best friend had her bridal portrait hair/makeup done at Ulta. They charged her $65. The stylist said they would come to the venue the day of the wedding and do all the hair makeup for the bridal party and mothers for $65 each. Perfect.

The day of the wedding, the manager of the salon and her co-worker came. They charged the mom of the bride $95 for hair/makeup. She was first. So the bridesmaids said, forget it, we have $65 on us, that's all.

The manager said, 'well, we won't be doing your hair/makeup'.

We were shocked! They charged the bride $145 for hair/makeup.

I called Ulta the next day. Little did we know, these two clowns were working for themselves!! Utla does NOT allow stylist to work out of the salon!!

The district manager got to looking and they had 17 brides in a month get their bridal portrait makeup done, and never return.

Why? Cause these two were taking the customers away and doing it under the table at $145 a pop!

I heard they aren't employed by Ulta anymore, but I would be leary of anyone offering to do makeup and hair at your venue!

I work for this company and you have to sign a slip when we mention the Instyle issues that they force us to push, although I don't agree with it, you should look at what you sign.
We can't pull the credit information, it's pulled through the system AFTER YOU TELL US YOUR ADDRESS. So you obviously give us consent.
I thought this complaint was funny due to the fact I was cashiering when this happened. Ulta forces us to be ontop of everyone due to high theft in the fragrance section and with the Chi products. That manager had our District Manager on her ass all the time because that same day someone had stole $250 in Chanel fragrance.

honestly jsnyder...do you have serious proof of that? Documented proof that ULTA gave out your credit/debit card number? Let's get real...just money hungry customers wanting to file rediculous law suits..looking for ANY way to say they felt "discriminated against, or judged in some way....it's happening everywhere these days. And as for Instyle Magazine..the only way that Instyle charges your credit card is if you sign a paper and send it to the company. Without your signature they WILL NOT EVER charge you. We have this at my place of business as well. You can contact instyle and they will tell you the same thing.

I too just found out that Ulta gave my credit card info to instyle magazine without my explicit permission. Any ideas where I can complain more about it.

Something similar happened to me at Ulta. I've found that the people who work at this store, with a few exceptions, are often unfriendly and unintelligent. I'm sorry for what happened to you. It's utterly reprehensible.

just another complaint... DO NOT USE YOUR CREDIT CARD or DEBIT CARD at this store... THEY give it out to other merchants and you will find charges from these merchants that you did not make!
