Fresh Direct expensive addiction - grocery home delivery

OK...the site is user friendly and the produce and fish are really great. They are probably more costly than Whole Foods or Citarella. They had a bad spate of problems with delivery slots being available. I suspect that they may have been hiring un-documented workers and the law caught up with them. The problem is, why the cost add-ons? There are charges for delivery, fuel pass-alongs, traffic charges, etc. This usually adds a hefty fee to their already pricey product. It is so convenient to sit at "work" and order groceries and then forget about it, until the appointed delivery slot (when you are shelling out even more moolah to the poor schlub who is doing the work. If they have no real overhead (no real store), why the high prices?
