Former HD Customers BEWARE - Satellite Tv Service

I have been a customer of DirectTV for several years. We are relatively happy with their service except for the lack of satellite signal that occurs during a heavy rain or snow and my reoccurring billing issue.

This posting is to warn any other DirectTV customers about something that keeps happening to us. We ordered HD TV about 2 years ago for the football season. All was fine until it came to the cost/benefit analysis and since we only reaped the benefit of HD while watching football on Sundays, we decided that regular digital service was sufficient and cancelled HDTV service. We promptly returned our receiver as requested.

A few months later, I see on our bill that I'm again being charged for HDTV...although I don't have the service nor do I have an HD receiver! I immediately call to have my bill corrected. About 6 months later, I call because I have a reception issue and the technician asks me to check my HD Receiver to see how that looks. I explain that I no longer have HD and he tells me I've been paying for it for months!!! He then sees I have no receiver for it and contacts the billing department to have all the months of HD service charges removed.

Today, almost 2 years later, I find my August 2008 bill has an HD service charge on it!!!!!! You can imagine how irrate I am at this juncture. I again spend my time to call DirectTV and have it removed again.

This time I ask them what they are going to do to prevent this from happening again. The customer service representative just tells me the charge has been removed...the same story I've been getting for years!!!

If anyone out there has had HD from Direct TV in the past and has cancelled this service...BEWARE!!! Direct TV seems to have no mechanism to make sure when you cancel it, it is permanent!

I explained to them that I will cancel DirectTV and switch to another service if I find one more incorrect HD service charge on my bill!!!
