You will get prompted to log in whenever you are near a hotspot - even if you are in a location where you can get free wireless internet. You will automatically get charged, and they will not warn you that you are not accessing the free internet, but Boingo service for which you will be charged.

Thanks for sharing your experience. We appreciate the feedback, as this helps us continually improve the service we provide. Let me shed some light on what happened.

Some of our locations are part of networks that offer customers the choice between a free sponsored Wi-Fi session or paid access for their roaming partners. Why would anyone choose to pay for access at a location where Wi-Fi is offered free, you ask? Great question.
Many times, the “free” session requires you to watch advertisements, or is delivered at a sub-optimal speed (i.e., the operator ratchets down the speed delivered to people who are accessing the complimentary amenity). Many of our customers have told us that they would rather pay for a Wi-Fi session with no ads and fast speed than the free alternative. Since the Boingo software automatically detects networks that list Boingo as a roaming partner, it prompted you to connect to Wi-Fi within the paid access option.

We want you to be a happy Boingo customer, so we’d like to offer you a courtesy refund and a free connect credit on your account. Please send me an email at lsanyal at boingo dot com so that we can pinpoint your issue (it would be helpful to know in which hotspot this happened) and adjust your account.
