DON'T purchase a GE Advantium...

DON'T purchase a GE Advantium mircowave/speed cook oven unless you are prepared to pay approximately $166.67 to get a light bulb replaced. I owned an old Amana microwave for more than 20 years and never had a light bulb burn out. When the first bulb went, the Advantium was in use for approx. 5 months. However, I rarely used the surface light. It was still under warranty and GE sent a replacement bulb at no charge & I was able to replace it myself. Unfortunately, one month after the warrant ran out, the next bulb blew. It was the interior light and it requires a service call to install it. That's 2 bulbs in a 13-month span. Not so good. An arguing appeal to the custmoer relations dept. won me the waivier of the basic $79.95 service charge, but they saw no problem charging me $86.72 for the labor.
Of course, every single month during the warranty year they sent me an offer to sign up for their costly service contract. I am convinced that their profits are in service contracts and service calls. I also experienced disappointment with their GE Profile dishwasher which I paid over $1,000 for. Also just over one year old, the plastic control panel looks like it has gone through many years of use. If I sound angry, I am. To add insult to injury, I wrote a long letter expressing my disappointment to GE in June. At the end of August, I sent a certified letter to them asking them if they had received the original letter and wondered why no one had contacted me. After a few weeks I got a form letter from GE telling me they had tried unsuccessfully to reach me by phone. I had given both my home & business nos. They never called me at work, although they claim they called during regular business hours - at my home. No messages were left on my answering maching. When we finally spoke they pretty much said I had gotten all the attention I was going to receive. It was only after all this frustration and giving them from June to early September to contact me that it has come to this. I, too, thought GE was a product to trust. Their motto is "GECares". just not so much. Trust somebody else.
