Contracts - Dish Satelite Network

In May of 2005 I received an advertisement in the mail from Davis Brothers . I contacted them to Install my Dish Satelite. I disconnected before my contract was up and Pd Dish Satelite for the early disconnect but was later contacted by Davis Brothers that I owed them $500.00 for an early disconnect. I looked at the copy I had received and it was blank except for my signature the name of Davis Brothers. I would never have knowingly signed such an agreement because I wouldn't have had the means to pay that amount. If I had agreed to the contract I wouldn't have canceled early. Due to the large amount they were asking for I would have opted to wait and disconnect after the contract expired. I knew nothing about it until I had Pd Dish and returned their equipment. It appears the agreement was in very fine print that I couldn't read and they call this legal and are taking me to court. Most likely they will get a judgement against me and since I don't have the means to pay it my credit will be tarnished. Get this, their lawyer told me if I didn't pay it he would file a lein on the property I was renting that has since sold. I don't believe a lein can be filed on a landlords property due to a renters debt with another party. That's absurb. I wanted to see a copy of the contract so I could know just why I had overlooked the $500.00 charge, so I called the lawyer. Mind you, this was a simple request, will you please send me a copy of the contract I signed. He went off on me like a madman making accusations and threats and told me I wouldn't get a copy untill I was in court and they had gotten a judgement against me and started ratteling off all the charges he was I was going to have to pay. He ended by say, Have a nice day and hung up on me. I was flabergasted by his unprofessional attitude. I had never in my 69 years been talked to by anyone the way he talked to me. I just felt like since all I was left with was a blank contract and I was being sued I'd like to see exactly why. Anyway, BEWARE of Davis Brothers and their contracts. Any positive advice would be appreciated. Bumbed

I think my problem is solved with Davis Brothers/Dish Network. I contacted legal aid and they told me to write a complaint to the attorney generals office in Arkansas and Okla. I did and heard back from them telling me to not give them anythink and they would be contacting Davis Brothers and their collection agency, which led me to believe they were attorneys and could do a lot more than they actually can. Anyway I took it one step further and also complained to the Florida Attorney Generals Office since that is where the Collction agency is. I feel a lot better now that I know and undersand my rights better. This has definately been a learning experience for me. Bumbed

I can't say positively for Dish but I know for direct that when the company installs the product they are paid by direct and have no more claim against it.
If you had any problems with the service like losing reception on clear days with a little wind and you have it documented by calling in service calls to the company your probably safe because they didn't isntall it correctly. or if you rent and they didn't have written permission from your landlord to install the system he could go after the company that installed it for any damages they caused to the building be it a new roof new siding any holes they drilled into the building and I'd bet you they would back off the 500 real quick if he went after them
