Complete Lack of Customer Service - Customer No-service

On 10/18/08, I went to the local Bank of America ATM in order to deposit my payroll check into my account. The bank was closed, so I had to try and use the ATM. I inserted my ATM/debit card, the screen flashed some kind of message about an error or malfunction, and the transaction I started was cancelled. The machine kept my card and I couldn't get it back. I was unable to deposit my check.

While still at the bank, I called the Bank of America toll free number in the phone book. After several minutes of presssing buttons and being on hold, I finally got to speak to a so-called customer service representative. I explained what happened and made a request for a bank employee to be sent to my location to retrieve my card from the machine. I was told this was not possible, that it "was against policy", and that nothing could be done until the bank opened on Monday. I again insisted that a bank employee be sent to get my card from the machine. I was then told that the card would be useless even if it was retrieved, because it had been deactivated/cancelled for "security purposes" when it got sucked into the machine. What utter nonsense.

So I asked to speak to a manager. A few minutes later, someone who claimed to be a manager got on the line. I told him the same story and made the same request for assistance. I got the exact same reply from the "manager" as I did from the first guy...impossible, against policy, card would be inactivated anyway, can't do it, have to wait till the bank opens Monday (this happened on Saturday).

So I have to go the whole weekend without my debit card. Bank of America provided ZERO customer service of any kind to me. They refused to offer any assistance or help whatsoever. All I got was excuses and patronizing lip service. I was left completely on my own.

People, if you do business with Bank of America, then beware! If you encounter problems like this, you will be left completely on your on. Bank of America will not offer to help in any way.

You would think that long time customers with accounts in good standing would receive better teatment than this. Not so at Bank of America.
