Color Me Furious! - Hair Color at Salon

I have been crying for hours and am too embarrassed to even leave my house because my hair is orange.

First visit was 9/1. Saw Arpa. She touched up my roots and freshened my color. It ended up a light ash blonde. It was a little too light, so she promised to take it one shade darker the next time.

Second visit was 10/9. Arpa took my hair one shade darker, gave me a cut and blow dry. Due to the way she dried my hair and the bad store lighting, I could not get a close look.

The next day on 10/10, I discovered that my roots were orange. The rest of the hair was a medium ash blonde and ok. I called the store and said someone must fix the orange roots. The manager, Archie, scheduled me for 10/11 at 1:45pm with Arpa.

Arpa looked at my roots and agreed they were orange and promised to fix them. But instead of just doing my roots, she used some toner, pulled it through all of my hair, left it on too long, and ended up making my hair brown.

So then she said she would lighten it with some special shampoo. This turned my entire head orange.

She then said she knew how to fix it, and again did some toner. And again my hair was orange.

TWO HOURS had gone by. Now, instead of being a pretty blonde with orange roots, my ENTIRE HEAD was orange.

At this point, I expressed my unhappiness with the situation. Arpa snapped that my "energy" was upsetting her and she could not do good work unless I stopped putting out such bad energy. She said I was a mean person and had ruined HER day! Can you imagine that? I'm sitting there with orange hair, and she's complaining to the customer that HER day is ruined!

She then said, "TRUST ME. I am a color expert. I know how to fix this."

And AGAIN, she put me through a round of toner and shampoo. With each round, my hair was getting drier and more damaged.

After round three, STILL ORANGE! I said to her - now will you please do this right way? You have to strip my hair at this point and put permanent color on. (She was using semi-permanent for all those rounds,) She refused. She said NO, I know what I am doing.

I spoke to Archie, the manager, who insisted I give Arpa a chance to fix my hair. (I had already given her over 2 hours and multiple attempts!)

She put me through a FOURTH ROUND of the same nonsense. STILL orange.

She then said that she would only bleach my hair if I signed a release! Before those 4 rounds, she should have just bleached the roots in the first place and put color on! One of her co-workers whispered to me that the only way to fix my hair was to use bleach. NO KIDDING! But Arpa had an inflated sense of her own abilities...

She then put me through another round HER WAY, and while rinsing me out said, "Oh I've fixed it now." She took me out to the station, started to dry my hair and then admitted it was still red and NOT blonde. Again, I had walked in with a beautiful ash blonde color and only needed her to fix the orange roots she had created 2 days earlier.

At that point, she put some permanent color on it. That made it a dark orange with brown.

At one point, Arpa said that God would help her fix my hair, and that I just needed to be patient.

Now remember I walked in at 1:45pm. At this point it's about 5:15pm and my hair is STILL ORANGE! Archie the manager has left. I am forced to speak with the manager on duty - Ko (a man who dresses like a woman, wears a wig and uses the ladies bathroom).

Arpa has been crying for an hour, saying it is my fault that the color went bad because of my bad energy, and she warns me that when I get home, karma will get me for being mean to her!

I am very upset at this point. Ko says my only choice is to get a refund, and see if Jackie can fix my hair on Tuesday! I lost 4 hours on my Saturday, my ONLY day to do errands, because of the orange roots from Thursday.

I work a day job and can't possibly lose pay going in on a Tuesday, plus I now have to either wear a hat or not leave my house. I AM DEVASTATED by this orange hair.

On top of all this, I now have extremely bad back and neck pain. My neck and vertebrae are bruised from being at the sink for 2 out of the 4 hours. My lower back is trashed from the bad chairs at the sink. The back of my head and neck were numb for hours. It is now almost 12 hours later and the pain is excruciating.

This was NOT handled properly. This was gross negligence and incompetence.

I got my money back, but had to leave the store with damp damaged orange hair. I had walked in with shiny, healthy ash blonde hair.

I am devastated and furious.

Sublime, clearly you didn't understand the review. This wasn't vanity. lol... My hair is naturally dark brown. It had been previously lightened to the ash blonde and it was HEALTHY, meaning that the previous job had not fried my hair. Why was I getting it lightened again? Because I had dark brown and grey roots, and it's called UPKEEP, my dear. Regardless, I've now gone back to dark brown with purple highlights, and I do it myself. I also cut it myself now. I've figured out that most hairdressers are idiots and don't listen or don't know what they're doing... especially at Ulta.

If you had "healthy ash blonde hair" then why were you getting it colored again in the first place? It sounds like a nightmare but your own vanity was somewhat to blame. Just go somewhere else or dye it yourself

I too have had experiences w/ hairdressers ALMOST as bad as yours, trying to get a decent hilite. NOTHING has been more upsetting in life so I can relate. I really feel for you. Have a good cry and a valium. Then Heavily condition and do LOTS of research at expensive color salons to find a very experienced colorist (15+ yrs coloring hair) to fix it. GOOD LUCK TO YOU, you poor sole. You didn't deserve it.

i CAN BE SURE BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE THE STYLIST KEPt USING COLOR THAT CONTAINED WARMTH IN IT INSTEAD OF COUNTER ACTING THE ORANGE WITH ASH. A blue- violet base color should have been considered along with the level of color she was using in accordance with the depth of the orange roots. CJ
