My niece was going to Florida, so her doctor called in her prescription early and she went to pick it up. * Please note that I know this woman's first and last name and I'm still go to be kind enough not to post it.
The CVS Pharmacist/Tech (J) got very verbal to my niece and told her that she did not want my niece back in that CVS Store. The Office for Civil Rights enforces the HIPAA Privacy Rule. This Tech (J) didn't even pull my niece to one side to discuss what the issue was troubling her, but had no problem letting the line of people in the store know my nieces business. On the way out there was a very nice woman that offered my niece her name and phone number if she needed a witness to how she was treated and my niece thanked her, but declined. My niece was so embarrassed, left the store and stopped by to consult me on it and she was sobbing. I have told this story to all my friends and family and will continue to tell this story to make it clear that this Tech (J) should be reprimanded. I feel my niece deserves a formal and written apology from this (J) and CVS Corporate. I've even offered to support my niece with retaining a lawyer because her Privacy was violated by this Pharmacist, but my niece delcined. I will not allow this to be swept under the rug. My niece did not do anything wrong. My niece has called CVS Corporate regarding this issue, but I'm going to help see her through this. I want written confirmation that this has been addressed. I will be following up on this. WRONG IS WRONG. If you don't have the patience or personality to deal with the public then find another profession.
