Buoy One in Riverhead Long Island
I went because of a write-up in Dans Papers. Much to my suprise the place did not smell like a fish market, which is what it is, with tables and some fishey decor, but I was glad to not encounter plastic chairs and tables. For entree's starting at 13.95, I was really glad that there were no plastic chairs or tables, and a decent selection of wine. I encountered just what I would have expected at a place like Buoy One, a bit of a wait, paper napkins, lots of noise etc. What I was so mad about was the fact that my entree promised seared scallops with snow peas and plum tomatoes, and I got all of the above but no plum tomatoes! I mean I got the lowest grade of tomatoes possible, like giant cubed, pink, supermarket grade tomatoes you would find in the dead of winter. What the F&*%#? David, you are a smart man, you know if you serve fresh stuff people will come, you are within 1 mile of the freshest long island plum tomatoes you can ever find, and you served me that?!?!?!? What this says about who you think your customers are is sad. It also shows you don't really care. That dish would have been ABSOLUTEY OUTSTANDING, instead it was mediocre, I didn not eat those tomatoes and it was the part i looked forward to the most, and the part that makes me upset is that it was totally preventable, I just don't get it? you had a bit of a hit this saturday didn't you, it's probably due to that write up in Dan's, smart people read Dan's, smart people live in Riverhead and surroundng towns, as do some resteraunt snobs like me, we're not so hard to please, just don't assume we won't know the difference, we do. The scallops were amazing by the way, and the snow peas snapped like they should, wish I coulda scooped some tomato on that fork, shame on you!
