Booking on Priceline.com - airline tickets

I urge everyone to be very careful and read the fine print before you book anything on Priceline.com. We recently bought an airline ticket on Priceline.com from Dullas Washington DC to JFK. The airline carrier was Delta. When we arrived at the gate Delta informed us that they had canceled the flight due to weather. This was the last flight out to JFK from Delta. When we went to the ticket counter to change our ticket from Priceline.com, Delta informed us that since it was weather related they had no obligation to the passenger. Delta would try to put us on another flight tomorrow, but they would not pay for a hotel. There were other airlines flying out that day to JFK, but Delta said that since we bought the ticket through Priceline.com and not directly throught Delta, Delta could not change the ticket and put us on another airline to get us out that night. I called Priceline.com to see if they would allow Delta to change the ticket and Priceline.com said they could not do it, they had not responsibility to the passenger, and that we would have to fight it out with Delta. I told Priceline.com that all they had to do was to allow Delta to change the ticket so we could fly on another airline and Priceline.com said no. They were very unhelpful and did care that we were stranded at the airport. We could have bought the ticket directly through Delta for the same price and everything would have been fine. Delta finally decided to help us out and they paid the difference and changed the ticket and let us fly on another airline and got us out that night after being there for 7 hours. I will never use Priceline.com, Expedia.com, Hotel.com, etc. They are only broker agents that take no responsibility when something goes wrong, and something always goes wrong when your traveling these days. My sister works for an airline and when I told her about the problem she said they always have this problem with passengers getting stuck because they bought their ticket through these brokers. She said if we would have bought the ticket directly through the airline, the airline would have helped immediately. Please be careful if you use these brokers.

If you knew you could have purchased the same ticket direct then why did you go through a third party? Good to know Delta came through hope you wrote a good review on their bahalf!
