Bogus Charges - Checking Account

I bank with Wachovia in Georgia and up until last month I had never had a problem with them. They decided to let an unauthorized transaction to go thru my account and when I called and asked that the account be closed they didn't do it and allowed other charges to come thru and charged me several Hundreds of dollars in fees. I complained to them but they told me it was my fault and to deal with it. They also took it upon themselves to drain my other account and put that money in the account that had unauthorized transactions even after I explained to them that the money they took had already been spent. They told me that it was my problem and I would still incur other fees and would not get them back!

I was unemployed for 6 months during 2008 and when I finally got a new job, I took a 40%+ cut in salary. I have been trying to work with Wachovia to modify my mortgage since February. They have taken federal monies from the Feds, yet are unwilling to move on my request. I initially started conversation with them in February, finally in March I got them to send me the paperwork for the modification. I faxed the volumes of information required back the next day - still in March - but it states on my account that it was received in April. Since April I have called every month. In mid-May, I was told to call back in 2 weeks. I did that until last week, when I found out that my information hadn't even been sent yet to risk management - this was on June 18. I was told to call back the first of next week. I gave them a couple of extra days and called back today. As of today, there is still no news, no movement on the modification - nothing. The banks moan about losses due to foreclosures and shortsells, but do nothing to mitigate their damages. I have missed no payments, nor have I been late. However, I clearly meet the requirements for the modification plan. I was told it would take 30 to 45 days back in March. I keep getting told it takes 30 to 45 days. I'm eating cereal every night to make sure I pay my bills on time. I didn't take out an exotic loan that I would never be able to pay for. I had been with the same company for 9 years when I bought my house and was comfortably making the payments on my sensible 30 year fixed mortgage. My job moved to Brazil. The recession hit. I'm trying to hang in until I can get a few raises and then be able to make my payments again. However, Wachovia seems intent on forcing me into foreclosure by their ineptitude and unwillingness to follow the guidelines they accepted when they accepted Federal mony. If I had it to do all over again, I would never use Wachovia again. I would stay with smaller local banks that are more willing to work with you. It's no wonder Wachovia is in the shape it is - it has no one to blame but itself.
