Best Buy Grossly mis-represents their extended service plans.

In Feb 2006 I purchased an I pod at best buy 86th and bought what I thought was a 3 year warrantY.

I brought it back last month for repair and was told appx 2 weeks later that the product would be replaced but they did not have any on hand so I could wait or get a store credit. I waited.

I was called and told that ipods had arrived and I could pick up my replacement. What is wierd is that best buy then had me purchase a new warranty becuase since the product was replaced my original warranty was satisfied. This means best buy exposure for this product was a total of 4 months after the mfg warranty. And that is their policy corporate, store or otherwise because it "cost them so much to replace it". What!? It is in their paperwork but they never tell you this. The manager in cs Eddie at 23RD said you have to read because "words just float around".

This is a huge scam and the product is now 70 dollars less than it was 16 month ago.

They did replace the product but this is just another way for them to make money. When you buy a 3 year svce plan you shouuld get 3 years of service. Not just until something is replaced. It is a gross misrepresentation

I was told best buy pays what they sell the product for on the floor and only makes money on accesssories. They must make something. Ad co-op service co-op delivery.

This is a 7 month old post. You should get out of retail. And a 3 year extended warranty should still cover you for 3 years. When you buy an extended service plan for a car, they fix the car no matter what for the warranty period you bought. This is the same thing.

You serious? They cover parts/labor for 3 years, but if it can't be fixed, it gets replaced. You then have a new device, which you would need to buy a new plan for.

And, you're complaining about spending $70 to get a brand new ipod? had you not bought the protection you would've been paying the full price.

and no, they don't make a profit on electronics. they're either sold at or below cost.

dumbass.

Your response is typical to that of the company employees. Again, if you buy a 3 YEAR SERVICE PLAN is shown in big bold print, you should get 3 years of coverage. Period. You should not have to buy another. The company used the extended warranty dollars paid to them for 14 months, the cost of this particular item went down substantially, then was covered by the manufacturer's warranty. If you bury the terms in fine print and then condescendingly point the item out to consumers when they ask about it, the company is obviously not proud of the policy and also - in my experience with the store and corporate policy - has a very poor conusmer culture. I've purchased quite a few items available at bestbuy since this incident. I would not consider purchasing from from Best Buy again. The policy is underhanded.

If you had read the terms of the service plan where the iPod is concerned, you'd have seen that it states if the unit is replaced rather than fixed under the plan, then the plan is considered fulfilled.

This isn't a scam or anything shady, don't try to blame the store because you couldn't be bothered to read the terms of the warranty.
