Bank of America finance charges

I have had a credit card with Bank of America for several years with no problem. Recently, my interest rate was increased with a credit line of $21,500, plus large minimum payments. When I received my September statement, I paid it off in the full amount which was posted to my account 2 days before the due date. I just received an October statement charging me periodic finance charge of $42.76. I called customer service, was on hold for at least 10 minutes, then transferred to a customer "manager" who spoke with a strong accent that I was unable to understand and had to ask him to slow down and speak more clearly. He said the finance charges were because I had not paid the account in full the previous month?? I do not understand this, it's probably written in the small print of the massive "terms" that I was too ignorant to understand in the first place. I'm going to send them my $46.76 but I can promise them, I will never use their credit card again and I will tell as many people as I can about my experience with Bank of America. What they have done, is totally unethical. Isn't it nice the bailout money was given to them so they could stay in business and continue to take advantage of their customers. I hope there are enough customers taking their business somewhere else that it will make an impact.

If you didn't pay your account off in full the month prior, you will be charged interest on your new purchases immediately because you have lost your grace period. If you carried over any part of your balance from the preceding month, you may not have a grace period for new purchases. Instead, you may be charged interest as soon as you make a purchase (in addition to being charged interest on the earlier balance you have not paid off). Look on the credit card application for information about the “method of computing the balance for purchases” to see if new purchases are included or excluded.
