Bait and Switch - Bus Service-L.A. to Vegas

My wife and I recently chose to take the Amtrak luxury bus to Las Vegas. We arrived at the station and were promptly pushed onto a very old, dirty, Greyhound bus. We learned after the fact that Amtrak subcontracts with Greyhound but we were not told this at time of purchase. Needless to say we were not happy, and unless you want to be deceived, have to wait while your driver makes personal phone calls at numerous stops, and then makes you climb under the bus to get your own luggage, be advised not to choose Amtrak.

My husband and I are going from Boston to Chicago via Amtrak 9/22/08. I was just notified that they are working on some tracks and we will have to take the "Amtrak Bus" from Boston to Albany and vice versa on the return trip. After reading this, I am hoping we are not going to be duped by Amtrak and have a miserable ride each way! I will let you know.

Greyhounds web site is very misleading as it appears to sell you a ticket for a particular bus on a set day. This is not the case since they can claim your selected bus is full on the day of departure and put you on a later, less satisfactory alternative. I call this bait and switch which would be against the law in any other industry.
