I have windows 98, does anybody know if this thing will work with my computer?

My phone service with Magic Jack is great. I can send and receive calls. My phone rings like it should and the reception hasn't worsened. The only problem that I am having is that when I answer the phone, my daughter's wireless internet goes offline for her laptop. My hub computer doesn't do this. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Just replaced my VoIP with MJ and so far so good. Sounds like a lot of people have problems probably because they don't understand how it works; it does require your PC to be on - that's how it connects to the internet. Different from a VoIP that connects directly to a router and doesn't require the PC to be on all the time. Not sure I would use it to replace my personal landline, but it saves the monthly fee for a work number. My only complaint is that there is no user manual and the configuration settings are limited.

We've had MagicJack now for nearly 2 years. For us it's worked quite well. We, my wife and I, also both have cell phones and we both feel the voice quality of MagicJack is much better than our cell phones. We use our MagicJack with cordless phones in our home and this works great. There may be a slight delay when the phone rings at your end until your computer comes out of it's "Screen Saver/Sleep" mode, but just give it a second and you'll be answering Ok. The call forwarding works great and having the "Contact" list available is nice. We're having a problem right now, however, which I believe must be due to a recent MagicJack upgrade. Our "Contact List" will not load. I've talked to the service people twice now and they've each tried to help, finally saying that that their engineers/techs are working on it and that I should try reloading after 1 hour..... no luck yet. We're still using it, however, and enjoying it, and hopefully the problem will get fixed soon.

Can you use Magic Jack if you have a home security system that needs a land line phone number? Thanks

I am very impressed with the customer service agents for magic jack they are very professional and do not stop until your problem has been fixed. It might take 10 tries to fix the problem but they do get it done. Thank you magic jack no other phone company has such great customer service.

All of the problems listed are by user error. The only flaw of Magic Jack is that it relies somewhat on end user knowledge and intelligence of pc's and phone systems. Unfortunately for Magic Jack, not everyone knows how make the proper connections to their housewide phone systems or make sure their pc's are capable of handling magic jack. Also, bandwidth has a lot to do with it. If your wifi is unsecure and your whole neighborhood is using your internet connection, more than likely, you are going to have issues.

I was looking at buying this today at BB. $40.00 at the store and another $20.00 per year. Thought I'd wait to buy it and do a little research... glad I didn't buy it. Thanks for all the advice. I won't be buying one of these. Good luck to anyone who does.

I bought majic jack for a fax number. For $19.95 per year it is the cheapest or should I say the most cost effective i have bought. Ican receive and send faxes using majic jack and my brother mfd 490cw. Call quality is also good, I use skyope also.

Sorry to add to the list but magic jack is not worth the money. I have it worked great for two weeks and since then the only way to dial out is on your computer you can't dial out on any phone. Then it has poor reception.

I love my MAJIC JACK! a total thumbs up, easy to fix problems, easy to use, won't trade it for regular long distance for anything.

Help: I get a flash screen picture of magicJack on top of every other screen and it won’t go away. It is a picture of magicJack with the words “magicJack Tell your friends.” I have Qwest and a 2001 Compaq Presario with XP.
Mind you, I think it is flash screen because the Task Manager (accessed by Ctrl-Alt-Delete) says “Flash Screen” running and the only way to get rid of the picture is to click end task from the Task Manager. After I do that then magicJack comes up phone pad comes up. I was able to make two phone calls. I needed to “safely” unplug it to use the USB port for something else. Since then, after I plugged it back in, whenever I make a call it indicates time on the call but no one hears me talking and I can not hear them talking.
I have run the fix accessed through the menu to no avail. Any suggestions?
I am posting copies of this all over the place. After reading other complaints, I now think it might be the phone companies that are up to something. Having said that, I hope we don’t have to wait a long time for someone to make a big political deal – to get a lot of momentum against the phone companies – I just want to start using mJ again.

What do I expect? I expect a product to work if I am paying for it no matter what I pay a month and customer services that I can contract. Not given a pos that doesn't work and not to be ignored by CSR's if you have a problem. Good customer service would is the key to business... sooner or later they will fall if they don't change.

Love my MagicJack. Almost trouble free device. Only small complaint are the intermittent audio dropouts that last for a split second, hardly noticeable. Most of the time it's trouble free. Have had magicjack for almost a year now and just renewed it for another 5 yrs. Magicjack is not a scam in my house. It's saving me hundreds of dollars.
